Nothing says all-natural like a product that you can safely consume, whilst also applying to skin anywhere on your body. Emu oil has no side-effects and is a super effective natural remedy for a long list of skin, hair and inflammatory conditions. Here's how to best use it for some of the more common purposes...
Applying topically on skin
Shake well before use. Squeeze a small amount of oil onto your hands (enough to lightly cover skin on affected area) and gently rub them together. This slightly warms the oil, making it more spreadable and easily absorbed. Apply to the affected/desired area and massage in gently, working the oil into the skin until it is absorbed.
Pro tip: If you have excess oil leftover on your hands don't waste it! Rub it into your hands, cuticles, elbows or any other problematic skin areas.
As a face moisturiser
Use daily after your evening shower or cleanser. The oil is quite light and absorbent so it won't make your skin look greasy if you want to use it in the morning instead. Gently dab on to face and then rub in gently until absorbed.
As a general body moisturiser
Use daily when slightly moist after a shower. Gently rub oil all over your body or to any specific areas that are dry, cracked or damaged.
For skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis etc.)
Apply oil directly to affected area/s 2-3 times daily. Can be used alongside our emu oil skin cream for additional reinforcement.
For burns and wounds
1st degree burns and minor wounds - can use immediately 2-3 times a day applied directly on affected area.
2nd/3rd degree burns and more serious wounds - wait until skin begins healing over before applying 2-3 times a day directly to affected area. This is usually 2-3 days after injury or surgery, but if in doubt ask your doctor. Always ensure the wound is clean before applying.
Can be used alongside our emu oil skin cream to help form a barrier over the wound and assist the repair process.
For scars, stretchmarks & damaged skin
Apply directly to affected skin 1-2 times a day until desired result is achieved. Can be used alongside our emu oil skin cream to help assist the healing process.
For arthritis & joint or muscle pain
Apply oil to affected areas 1-2 times a day - more for intensive pain. Massage the oil well into the muscles and joints until it is fully absorbed. Can also be used as a massage oil replacement.
Tattoo aftercare
Pat the tattoo dry using a clean cloth or paper towel and gently rub a small layer of emu oil over your whole tattoo. Repeat this process 2-3 times daily until your tattoo has completely healed. Emu oil will help lock-in the colour and speed up the healing process.
Piercing aftercare
Apply to the skin surrounding the piercing times daily, until piercing is completely healed. Emu oil is very gentle and can be used on all areas of the body and all types of piercings, including mouth piercings.
Before/after pregnancy
Gently massage the oil once or twice a day to any areas of concern, including your belly, hips, bottom and breast area. Do this while pregnant to help minimise the formation of stretchmarks, and then after giving birth to further assist skin appearance. Can also be applied to C-section scars, dry/cracked nipples (outlined below) and sore muscles/joints associated with the pregnancy.
Breastfeeding
Gently apply oil 1-3 times daily to the skin around the nipple and areola area. Emu oil is safe to apply to broken, dry and damaged skin and will aid in wound healing. Wipe any emu oil off before feeding bubs after.
Hair, beard and scalp
For scalp issues like dandruff, cradle cap and flaky skin, first gently brush your scalp with a soft bristle brush. Follow this by thoroughly washing your hair with our emu oil shampoo to remove the excess oil and follow up with your normal conditioner.

- Begin by washing your hair thoroughly and towel dry till slightly damp.
- Pour 3-6 tablespoons of oil into a microwave safe dish and heat up in 10 second increments until the oil is warm, but not hot to touch.
- We recommend placing a towel around your shoulders.
- Apply the oil to your damp scalp, gently massaging it in, and gently rubbing it into the lengths of your hair.
- Gently comb the oil through your hair.
- Place a shower cap over your oiled scalp and hair, leaving for 20 mins to deeply penetrate and moisturise.
For pet care
Internally:
For general health maintenance add ¼ teaspoon of oil per 10kg of body weight to your pet's food once daily. If your pet suffers from inflammation of the joints & muscles, arthritis or stomach & digestive issues, add ¼ teaspoon of oil per 10kg of body weight to your pet’s food twice daily.
Topically:
For skin, joint and muscle issues, heat the oil up by squeezing a small amount onto your hands and rubbing together. Liberally apply to affected skin, joints and sore muscles. Can be applied up to 3 times daily. For minor skin issues and general skin/coat health, you can add a few drops to your pet's shampoo and wash according to shampoo instructions.
